Drill Pipe Remedial

Based on inspection results, drill pipes that cannot be used for drilling without certain repair operations are identified. Neglecting these repairs often leads to higher costs, as purchasing a new tool joint becomes necessary. However, high-quality repairs can restore the drill pipe to nearly all its original factory specifications.

After cleaning the tool joint, restoring the lock diameters, re-cutting and reinforcing threads, painting, and applying corrosion protection, the pipe can be fully restored to operational status. The cost of these repairs is significantly lower than purchasing a new pipe.

Rysgal Oilfield Services is provide all repair operations with the highest quality, including a mandatory final inspection. After repairs, the drill pipe not only looks like new but also functions as if it were brand new.

Benefits for You

Timely repair of drill pipes is essential to prevent excessive wear, reduce the risk of downgrading the pipe’s class, and avoid critical defects. Our company utilizes modern machinery and equipment to meet all required tolerances and ensure high-quality repairs. Certain operations, such as reapplying hardbanding and grinding sealing ends (refacing), can even be performed on-site.

Conscious Savings

Entrusting your drill pipes to our company guarantees a professional approach and superior workmanship. Threads are not only repaired but also enhanced through hardening and phosphating. Additionally, we offer lapping and screwing with torque control. Once repairs are completed, threads are lubricated and safeguarded with protectors.

Internal Pipe Coating

Drill pipes are prone to corrosion—this is a well-known fact. While rust on the outside of the pipe is easy to detect, pitting (localized) corrosion on the inner surface is much harder to identify and poses significant risks.

Applying an internal polymer coating to drill pipes helps protect them and prevents fluid erosion along the pipe body. This provides comprehensive protection: hardbanding safeguards the tool joints, phosphating and hardening protect the threads, and a durable polymer composition shields the pipe’s inner surface.

In some cases, internal coating is indispensable. For instance, drilling in environments with high hydrogen sulfide content significantly accelerates pipe corrosion, rendering unprotected pipes unusable. The best solution for protecting drill pipes in such conditions is the application of an internal polymer coating.

Perfect for your needs!

The coating can be applied to both new and used pipes. A complete technological process, including annealing of the old coating and shot blasting the pipe’s inner surface, ensures excellent adhesion and unmatched reliability. After the repair, the pipe is fully prepared for operation under the most challenging conditions!

Main Advantages:

  • Reduces hydraulic losses
  • Protection against corrosion and reduced abrasive wear
  • Minimizes fatigue failures
  • Reduces salt formation and prevents deposit buildup in the pipe’s internal cavity
  • Enables compatibility with a wider range of drilling fluids with varying pH levels

Key Benefits

Key Benefits of Using Internal Coated Drill Pipes in Well Drilling:

  • Service life extension: More than 2x increase in the average service life of drill pipes
  • Reduced hydraulic losses: Over 10% decrease due to the low hydraulic resistance of the coated internal surface
  • Energy savings: Reduction in energy costs by more than 20%, especially when drilling at depths greater than 1,000 meters
  • Fewer failures: More than a 2x decrease in drill string failures, reducing the number of trips
  • Increased maintenance intervals: Drill pipe inter-repair period extended by 1.5 times

Drill Pipe Hardbanding Repair

Applying wear-resistant surfacing (hardbanding) to the tool joint of drill pipes is a modern and highly effective method for extending the service life of drilling tools.

Statistics show that the primary reason for pipe rejection during inspection is a reduction in the outer diameter of the nipple and coupling. Hardbanding effectively prevents this issue.

Hardbanding involves the application of bands made from a special hard alloy onto the coupling and/or nipple of a drill pipe. This ensures that the protective bands, rather than the coupling metal, come into contact with the casing or open borehole, shielding the pipe from wear.

Typically, protective surfacing is applied to the coupling (three 1-inch-wide bands) or to the nipple (two bands). For enhanced durability when drilling in challenging conditions, hardbanding can be applied to both ends of the pipe.

Perfect for your needs!

The benefits of hardbanding are widely recognized worldwide. Over 90% of drill pipes manufactured internationally are equipped with protective surfacing at the factory. Pipe owners only need to periodically reapply the hardbanding as it wears out, ensuring their tools remain well-protected.

Main Advantages:

  • Protect drill pipe tool joints from wear.
  • Prevent casing damage caused by drill pipe contact.
  • Reduce torque losses during drilling by minimizing the contact area between pipe tool joints and the casing or rock.

Materials and Capabilities

We offer hardbanding services for both new and used pipes, using advanced materials such as:

  • Duraband NC
  • ARNCO 350 XT
  • Castolin OTW-12

With our expertise and high-quality materials, we ensure your drill pipes are ready to perform reliably in even the most demanding conditions.

Drill Pipe and BHA Inspection Services

Drilling tools are built with an impressive safety margin, but it’s not limitless. The cost of a BHA (Bottom Hole Assembly), including telemetry systems and similar equipment, can reach millions of dollars, all suspended on the drill string.

Wear and tear on the pipe body, threads, and thrust ends inevitably lead to loss of tightness and washouts. At best, this results in additional tripping operations; at worst, it can cause a break, lost in hole, accidents, and non-productive time (NPT).

Timely inspection of drill pipes can help prevent these costly and dangerous scenarios. Using advanced research and the expertise of our specialists, we minimize risks for our customers. Our inspections adhere to the DS-1 standard, the most authoritative international guidelines for drill string inspection.
